Wine & culinary delights: Mittelahr

Wine lovers get their money's worth in the WeinKulturDorf Dernau, the largest wine village on the Mittelahr. You can not only taste the fine wines at the wineries and winegrowers' co-operatives, but also buy them. Most winegrowers offer their treasures in their own wine shops and provide personalised advice. In the Marienthal district, the Marienthal monastery of the same name is home to one of the most beautiful wine shops in the Ahr Valley. In addition to wines from various Ahr winegrowers, connoisseurs will also find plenty of exquisite regional delicacies here.

Our tip: On a tour along the Rotweinwanderweg, you can hike through the vineyards from wine village to wine village and stop by the wineries in Rech, Mayschoß and Altenahr to take your favourite Ahr wine home with you.

You can already feel the "racing atmosphere" here, as Adenau is considered the gateway to the Nürburgring, the Mecca for motorsport fans. The lively, cosmopolitan town is the centre for trade, crafts and services in the region and a popular shopping destination with a traditional weekly market. Large and small shops with a wide range of products can be found along the main street in the centre of the small town. Small but beautiful: Blankenheim

The pretty castle town of Blankenheim lies in the heart of the Northern Eifel. This is not only the source of the Ahr. The AhrSteig and the Ahr cycle path also start in Blankenheim, right at the source of the Ahr in the centre of town. The small town is therefore perfect for cycling or hiking through the Ahr valley from the west. Blankenheim is also a popular day trip destination for motorbike excursionists, as there is so much to discover here. At the foot of the historic castle is the romantic old town with its picturesque half-timbered houses, cobbled alleyways, cosy cafés and small shops.

Our tip: On a tour through the centre of Blankenheim, it's best to climb the medieval hilltop castle first, then pay a visit to the source of the Ahr not far from the Eifelmuseum and then take enough time to browse through the small shops to your heart's content.
