Cycling in the Ahr valley
Along the water, through forests or vineyards
Cycling is one of the most popular leisure activities in the Ahr Valley. Discovering the marvellous vineyards, meadows and meadow landscapes from the saddle is simply fun and offers a close-up experience of nature.
The family-friendly and low-gradient Ahr cycle path in particular is a paradise for leisure cyclists. However, the flood in July 2021 destroyed large parts of the popular Ahr Cycle Path, especially in the narrow and rocky area between Walporzheim and Altenahr. The cycle path is currently passable again on the section between Blankenheim and Ahrbrück and between Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and Sinzig (partly with detours). Reconstruction is underway, but the completion of a new continuous Ahr cycle path will still take some time.
The Ahr Valley also offers further opportunities for sporty cycling: If you are travelling by e-bike, you can climb the vineyards or explore the wide meadow plateaus of the Ahr heights.
An alternative to the Ahr cycle path is offered by the discovery tours"In the footsteps of the railway","In the footsteps of the Ahr and Eifel" and"In the footsteps of the Kalkeifel". Here you can experience the varied landscape of the upper Ahr valley and the Eifel.
In the lower Ahr valley, the circular tour from Bad Neuenahr or Sinzig past the mouth of the Ahr and then along the Rhine cycle path to Bad Hönningen and back is also worthwhile. Another relaxed cycle tour takes you along the Ahr and the Rhine to Bonn.
