A passion for quality

The Ahr is a red wine region where Pinot Noir reigns supreme. Around 65 per cent of the 500 hectares of vineyards belong to it. It feels particularly at home on the steep vineyard terraces in the narrow valley. Manual labour is the keyword here. The use of machines is hardly possible, all grapes are harvested by hand. Quality rather than quantity is therefore the maxim on the Ahr.

Some of the best Pinot Noirs in Germany grow in the Ahr valley and there is a reason for this: here the vines thrive on slate soils - combined with an almost Mediterranean microclimate - throughout the valley. The best conditions for the winegrowers to create expressive top wines of unique structure, elegance and fruitiness from the grapes with great passion and the highest level of expertise.

So it's no wonder that numerous awards and honours go to the Ahr every year. The Ahr is also home to another speciality: the rather rare Pinot Noir, which is known for its fruity character and intense red colour.

White wine from red grapes

With around 80 per cent red grape varieties, the Ahr is actually the largest single red wine-growing region in Germany. But what about the white wines? In addition to excellent Rieslings and Pinot Blancs, the Ahr has adopted another new trademark: the Blanc de Noir, a Pinot Noir pressed in white.
