Hiking bloggers on tour on the AhrSteig

Impressions & experiences from the 11th blogger hike in Rhineland-Palatinate in the Ahr Valley

Panoramic, warm, overwhelming - that was the 11th Blogger Hiking Rhineland-Palatinate in the Ahr Valley!
From 19 to 21 April 2024, we guided ten hiking and outdoor bloggers through the Ahr Valley under the motto "We AHR open - hiking on the AhrSteig" together with Rheinland-Pfalz Tourismus GmbH. For three days, they travelled along the AhrSteig from the source of the Ahr in Blankenheim to its mouth in Sinzig, taking in all the variety of landscape, (wine) culture and hospitality that the Ahr Valley has to offer. Despite the rain, the atmosphere in the group was great and the sense of community was fantastic. We experienced marvellous hiking trails, great views, inspiring conversations, hosts with passion and overwhelming feedback.

The bloggers unanimously agreed:
The Ahr Valley is well worth a visit. Come by, enjoy the marvellous landscape and let yourself be enchanted by the Ahr Valley hospitality!

In the blog post you can read more about this unique tour and what the participants experienced during their journey.

3 days - triple programme full of highlights & emotions

Day one started in Blankenheim at the source of the Ahr, which rises below a half-timbered house in the town centre and where the AhrSteig trail also begins. In the afternoon, the group set off on stage four from Insul to Liers. In Altenahr, the group made a flying visit to the castle ruins of Are with a marvellous panoramic view of the Ahr mountains. During the subsequent dinner with regional specialities at Hotel Ruland, the winemaker and chairman of Ahrwein e.V., Lukas Sermann from Altenahr, presented suitable Ahr wines. The new managing director of Ahrtal-Tourismus, Andreas Lambeck, was also present.

Altenahr was also the starting point for day two. The AhrSteig trail led along alpine paths with striking viewpoints such as the Teufelsloch and the "Schrock" summit to Saffenburg Castle in Mayschoß. Ahrweinprinzessin Merle Kurth welcomed the bloggers with a lunch snack from the "Bahnsteig 1" restaurant and wines from the Mayschoß-Altenahr winegrowers' co-operative. The last stop on stage five was the Krausberg in Dernau, where coffee and cake awaited the hikers.

In the evening, Ahrweiler was on the programme with a short tour of the old town followed by a stop at Winzerhof Körtgen. Here, Antje Körtgen and Burgundia Michelle Quandt welcomed the group with a glass of sparkling wine from their own vineyard and a delicious dinner with wine accompaniment.

After an overnight stay with a hearty breakfast at the Hotel Krupp in Bad Neuenahr, the hiking bloggers set off from the Waldkletterpark car park, where they were greeted by hiking guide Christine Nägler. Firstly, the AhrSteig stage seven took them up to Neuenahrer Berg and on to the giant bench in Heimersheim. Another photo stop was made at the Ehlinger Ley. Finally, the group stopped off at the Linden winegrower's cottage near Ehlingen for a final meal together. In a relaxed atmosphere, the bloggers reviewed their first impressions.

1 group - an overwhelming sense of community

The blogger hike focussed on promoting the AhrSteig award-winning hiking trail, which is once again fully accessible despite some trail relocations due to the flood disaster. During the hikes, there were many opportunities to talk to the people behind the reopened businesses - hosts, hiking guides, tourism experts, wine majesties and many more. The warm hospitality and the entire hiking programme inspired the bloggers enormously. During the weekend and in the days and weeks that followed, they published many posts on their social media channels, which can be found using the following hashtags: #bloggerwanderdern #RLPerleben #natürlichimAhrtal.
