Hinkelstein is a remnant of the foothills of the Hohe Ley.
The original house, which has a history of about 120 years, was built on and with the rock of the Hohe Ley. The house has always been used for gastronomic purposes; it used to be called the inn "zur Erholung." It is located in Kreuzberg, directly by the Ahr River with a view of the castle.
The rock in the shape of a Hinkelstein holds special significance for us and the house. In the past, there was a pavilion on top of the 13-meter-high rock, where Ahr wines were served in a sociable gathering. Even today, a staircase leads up to the rock.
In 1988, there was a rockslide from the Hohe Ley behind the house, and the "Hinkelstein" preserved our house from the worst. It also served as a climbing rock for all generations and as the highest organic garden in Kreuzberg.
On the night of the flood from July 14 to 15, 2021, the Hinkelstein protected our house and the houses of some neighbors from the worst.
Since this memorable event, the house has served as a safe harbor for many helpers and construction workers. Step by step, the reconstruction began as a self-help effort by the owners. Beautiful holiday apartments and flats were created.
We look forward to your visit.
