On the Heislei above Altenahr, the imposing Black Cross stands at a vantage point with a view of Altenahr, the ruins of Are Castle and the Teufelsloch. The wooden
construction rises about four metres into the air. Just under a kilometre
as the crow flies from its myth-enshrouded counterpart, the White Cross
