Rundwanderweg A4 "Scheidskopf"

We start at the "Waldschlösschen" hikers' car park, which is on the Birresdorfer Strasse (L 79) above the Apollinaris Church. We go left from the hiking map to turn right into the forest path just before the Waldschlösschen. Here we follow the A4 signs. After leaving the pond behind us, we come across a wider path. It is now possible to walk along the trail to the left or to the right. This description is counter-clockwise, so we go to the right. At the first signposted possibility, we turn left through mixed forest. Continue along the well-signposted path past the fenced-in area of Marienfels Castle until you reach the Calmuth Valley. Here we follow the slightly ascending asphalt road to the left. After about 500 metres, we turn right onto a wide forest path that leads us further uphill. At an open area overgrown with grass, we follow the markings to the left. Slightly uphill we walk along an old factory railway track. In former times, the trolleys with the basalt blocks were transported down to the Rhine to be loaded onto the ships. We are now below the Dungkopf, where the basalt used to be quarried. Now it is not far to the Birresdorfer Strasse. Turn left along this road and then right again at the next opportunity into the forest. Now we take the jointly signposted path (A1) along the north-south path, Bonn-Bad Neuenahr-Moselkern, to the "Schutzhütte am Scheidskopf". Here we take a short break and enjoy the view of the Ahr valley with the volcanic cone of the Landskrone. Follow the signs to the left along the edge of the forest. Through the forest, then across an open area, we soon reach the L 79 again, which we follow to the right. Directly behind a residential building, we turn left, past a barrier, into the forest. This path takes us back into the Calmuth valley. Just before the buildings of the former Internationale Film-Union (where films were dubbed and the newsreel "Blick in die Welt" was produced), we turn right and head uphill again. Follow the signs and after a short while you reach the starting point of the circular trail. We then take the branch path past the pond back to the hikers' car park.
