Your path to the cure
Everything you need to know
Generally speaking, the purpose of a spa holiday is to consolidate your health. That's why a health cure can be a sensible and necessary form of therapy for people of all ages. Working people in particular often complain of back pain, stress or signs of burnout. The best way to prevent chronic illnesses from developing is with an outpatient preventive health cure.

Since 2021, outpatient preventive care services are once again a mandatory benefit provided by health insurance companies. If medically necessary, health insurance companies must provide outpatient preventive care services at recognised health resorts.
How to apply for a cure
Step 1:
Talk to your family doctor about whether an outpatient preventive health cure is an option for you. This is the case, for example, if all treatment options at your place of residence have been exhausted.
Step 2:
If an outpatient preventive health cure is an option for you - this usually extends over 3 weeks - have your GP fill out the form "Suggestion for an outpatient preventive health cure in recognised health resorts in accordance with § 23 Para. 2 SGB V". This form sets out the aims of the spa treatment, the focus of treatment and the therapy and remedies.
Step 3:
Submit the form completed by your GP to your health insurance company and wait for the relevant authorisation.
If the health insurance company rejects your application, we recommend that you lodge an appeal in any case. It is not uncommon for a cure to be rejected at the first attempt. But be persistent - after all, your health is at stake! Due to the change in the law in 2021, which means that outpatient preventive care services in recognised health resorts "must" be provided by health insurance companies if medically necessary (and no longer "can" only be provided), you should generally expect fewer rejections from health insurance companies.
Step 4:
Once the spa treatment has been approved, choose your preferred spa resort together with your family doctor.
Step 5:
Book your accommodation in your chosen spa resort and arrange the appointments required for your cure with the local spa doctor at the spa resort.
