The local mountain offers a fantastic view of the region
The Neuenahrer Berg, with its 340 metre high volcanic peak, is a striking elevation and is considered the local mountain of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. On its summit are the ruins of Neuenahr Castle and a viewing tower made of reinforced concrete, which was built in 1972 on the remains of the former Neuenahr Castle
The tower is popularly known as the "long Köbes". It is freely accessible all year round and offers an impressive panorama over the Ahr valley, the Rhine, the Siebengebirge mountains and even as far as Cologne Cathedral on a clear day.

Castle Neuenahr was built around 1225 as the seat of the lords of the county of the same name. In 1372, it was destroyed during a feud by order of the Archbishop of Cologne, Friedrich von Saarwerden. The Neuenahrer Berg and its observation tower are therefore not only an impressive landmark, but also a place that combines history and nature. Visitors can enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscape and experience far-reaching views of the region.
The ascent to Neuenahrer Berg is steep and takes around an hour from the Bad Neuenahr spa gardens via the Paradieswiese directly to the viewing tower. This is also where the 7th stage of the AhrSteigs along.
