Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler

Smallest Ahrweiler town gate from the 13th century

On the northern edge of the town wall lies the smallest of the four Ahrweiler town gates - the Adenbach Gate, also known as the "Winzertor". It dates back to the 13th century and impresses with its Gothic archway, portcullis slits and gate wings from the 16th and 17th centuries. The patron saint of the gate is St Mary - hence the name "Marientor". After the town fire of 1689, only the lower part remained for a long time before the gate was restored in the 1970s.</p
