Mighty gate of the former village fortifications of Heimersheim

The Westtor at Johannisstraße 44 represents one of a total of four bakehouses that once existed in Heimersheim and were each connected to the four town gates. After the Second World War, two of these bakehouses were demolished, but the west gate and bakehouse were rebuilt. This not only shows the historical significance of the building, but also the efforts to preserve cultural memories.

In addition to the Westtor bakehouse, the Orjasse bakehouse has also been preserved to this day, providing a further insight into the traditional art of baking and the history of Heimersheim. These remaining bakehouses not only serve as architectural witnesses to the past, but also as important cultural symbols that keep the region's past alive.
