winery Maibachfarm

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler

Your winery in Walporzheim

The Maibachfarm vineyard is located south of Ahrweiler in an idyllic side valley, directly above the Calvarienberg monastery. On almost 9.5 hectares of vineyards, 70 per cent Pinot Noir and ten per cent Pinot Noir, supplemented by other varieties such as Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Riesling, thrive.</p

The steep slopes of the Ahr Valley are home to Pinot Noir vines that are up to 70 years old. In 1999, the winery switched to organic, ecological viticulture. Since then, all areas have been cultivated according to Bioland guidelines - out of responsibility towards nature and the conviction that a living soil provides the best basis for healthy grapes and outstanding Burgundy wines.</p

The grapes are carefully selected by hand in the vineyard. The yield for the top wines is deliberately low - around 25 hectolitres per hectare. This quality process begins in spring with the pruning of the vines and ends with the careful pre-harvest in autumn. This results in dense, mineral and characterful Pinot Noirs from the region's slate soils.</p
