St. Hubertus Chapel

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler

Chapel in Ehlingen

Ehlingen already had a chapel in the middle of the 17th century. The lower parts of the choir walls of the Catholic St Hubertus Chapel in Ehlingen date back to this earlier building. The nave with its two stone groined vaults on pilasters was built in 1773, as evidenced by the chiselled date above the entrance door. Inside the chapel are two important wooden figures: St Hubertus from the 17th century and the seated Mother of God (St Mary) with child, dating from around 1440.

The chapel is dedicated to the patron saint St Hubertus. In his honour, the traditional "Bämm" is rung in Ehlingen every year on 3 November, his name day. This long-standing tradition has given the chapel the affectionate nickname "Ehlinger Bim Bam". Thanks to its historical building elements and cultural significance, St Hubert's Chapel is not only an architectural jewel, but also a living testimony to local traditions and customs.
