Schützenmuseum

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler

Schützenmuseum of the three Ahrweiler shooting societies

With the opening of the Schützenmuseum in 2002 by the Sankt Sebastianus Bürgerschützen-Gesellschaft Ahrweiler 1403 e.V., the first and only museum of its kind in Rhineland-Palatinate was created. Originally housed on the upper floor of the old town guardhouse on Ahrweiler's market square, the museum aims to keep the long and complex history of marksmanship in Ahrweiler alive and make it accessible to the general public.

In 2013, the opportunity arose to purchase the Blankart barn in Ahrweiler's old town centre. Following the purchase by the shooting club, the building was extensively renovated and reopened as the "Haus der Schützen" in 2014. Since then, it has served as the permanent home of the museum.

The exhibition includes art-historically significant exhibits, including marksmen's silver from three centuries, original uniforms, historical rifles and extensive photographic documentation. In the course of the move, the museum was expanded to include modern multimedia presentations. Interactive stations and digital content provide contemporary access to the regional shooting tradition.

The "Haus der Schützen" sees itself not only as a museum, but also as a living place for remembering, discovering and preserving cultural heritage - right in the heart of Ahrweiler.
