Römische Eisenverhüttung

The Roman estate "An den Maaren" was built in the 1st century and rebuilt and extended several times over the course of time. A large main or residential building as well as a number of smaller the "Iron" adventure day in the Ahrweiler Forest offers an impressive journey into the Roman past every year. In the historic site of a former Roman settlement that existed between 200 and 350 AD, visitors experience an exciting mix of archaeology, crafts and lively history education.

Under a bright late summer sky, adults and children were able to familiarise themselves with authentic tools, clothing and everyday objects from Roman times. Hands-on activities such as painting with Roman colours, trying out shields or playing Celtic instruments - especially the impressive carnyx - invited visitors to actively explore.

The archaeologist's guided tours were particularly popular, as he explained the significance of the settlement and its finds using illustrated panels with 3D reconstructions and a virtual 360° panorama.
