Roman villa at Silberberg

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler

Roman finds from the 1st century in Ahrweiler

In 1980, an archaeological sensation was discovered during construction work in the Ahr Valley: a Roman mansion from the 1st century. The find is often compared to the excavations at Pompeii, as the villa is exceptionally well preserved. Particularly impressive are the wall paintings, a bathing facility, a kitchen and completely preserved underfloor heating. The amazing preservation of the villa on the Silberberg is due to a landslide that preserved the building fabric. To protect the villa, it was eventually surrounded by an elaborate wooden construction. In 1993, the villa was opened to visitors as the Museum Römervilla am Silberberg. A tour of the ruins offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in everyday provincial Roman life almost 2000 years ago. The sophisticated Roman lifestyle and way of life can be recreated by walking through the Roman rooms.

During the visit, you can access an audiovisual presentation that takes you back to life at that time. Alternatively, guided tours are offered with the "landlady" or the "bath slave". A special way to immerse yourself in Roman times.
