Circular hiking trail A1 "Kripper Feld"
Just below the Rheinhalle, we turn into Simrockweg, which leads us past the school centre, then past the "Goldene Meile" campsite, which has won several ADAC awards. After the enclosure on both sides, we turn left and immediately right again on the field path and enjoy the unobstructed view. We are on historic ground here. The entire Golden Mile between Remagen and Kripp was a huge prisoner of war camp after the end of World War 2. To commemorate this prison camp, the "Black Madonna" memorial was erected on Mittelstraße. We continue along the field path and on the left side, at the appropriate time of year, we can watch the asparagus harvesters at work, harvesting the delicious Remagen asparagus. After a few hundred metres, we see the paddocks of the Georgienhof equestrian farm on the right. Continue until you reach the street "Auf der Schanze" in Kripp, which you follow towards the Rhine, where you can rest on benches and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the Rhine and the view of the city of Linz. On the right we see the Rhine ferry Kripp-Linz and a monument commemorating towboat navigation on the Rhine. After the rest, we walk downstream along the cycle path. Here we are on the old towpath. In earlier times, ships were pulled uphill on this path by horses. On the opposite heights of the Rhine we can see Ockenfels Castle. After a bend in the Rhine, we come to a ramp. At this point we come across the bridge towers of the former Ludendorff Bridge on both sides of the Rhine. On our side is the "Peace Museum -Bridge of Remagen", which is well worth seeing. Downstream you can also see the Apollinaris Church, on the other side the Erpeler Ley. Now we turn away from the Rhine and reach our starting point again after about 100 metres via the street "An der Alten Rheinbrücke" which leaves the ramp.
