Knowing of Barbarossa's ties to Sinzig, the Bunge-Koenigs family commissioned the

Bunge-Koenigs family commissioned the Cologne sculptor Wilhelm Albermann in 1875 to

to erect a statue of Barbarossa at their summer residence. In the year

1951, the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Bunge, Else von Wedderkop, bequeathed the monument to the town of Sinzig on condition that it be preserved. With great ceremony

ceremony and many guests of honour, it was moved from its original

original location next to the castle to its current position in the Lunapark.
