Bachemer Bakery

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler

Once a community bakery, today a wine museum in Bachem

The Bachem bakery was built in 1650 and is considered to be the oldest building in the district town of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. Originally, the ground floor was used as a community bakery, where bread was baked regularly until 1959. The upper floor housed a ceremonial room, which served as a guardroom for Cossacks during the Wars of Liberation. The room was later used as a village school between 1828 and 1848 and as a youth centre from 1927 to 1978.

Since 1978, the building has been home to the Bachem Winegrowers' Museum, which now exhibits historical winegrowing and agricultural equipment.

ZThe building is still used for baking twice a year - in keeping with the old tradition. The "Bachemer Backes" is a registered cultural monument and the proud landmark of the wine village of Bachem.
