The largest gate of the Ahrweiler town fortifications

The Ahr Gate forms the southern gate of the town fortifications of Ahrweiler

and owes its name to the fact that it is closest to the river Ahr.

and is one of the most imposing town gates of the Ahrweiler town fortifications.

It consists of a gate tower and two flanking three-storey half-towers. In the gateway there is a high relief of Christ carrying the cross in tuff from the 16th century. The Ahr Gate was destroyed by bombs at the beginning of 1945 and rebuilt by the townspeople until 1958. The patron saint of the so-called Ahrhut is St Barbara.

The history and impressive construction make the Ahr Gate not only a functional element of the city fortifications, but also an architectural jewel that fascinates visitors with its splendour and historical significance.

The Ahr Gate is a registered cultural monument.
